A True Story About Linux

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, I was a computer nerd. I was a kid then, but I could program my ass off in BASIC (and oh lordy how I wish I could program so I could get rid of it now). My dad was/is a huge computer geek so when I was little, he was teaching me how to do stuff. Right down to what's on the inside of the box. I took to it, and I became so intense (and he required such fancy efforts) that I would often put my line numbers much farther apart than just 10, 20, etc. Hey it taught me the value of a flowchart and while I don't use them to this day I feel I would be a lot more productive or something if I did. I learned IF and THEN and my personal favorite GOTO. I was....

What will they come up with next..

One thing I am absolutely sick of when I go to the store is how much merchandise they can cram a Hannah Montana theme into.. Your talking everything from children's toys to yard ornaments..  I wouldn't be surprised if she had her own line of kitchen seasonings..   I'll leave this short and to the point..  See below. ....

Peak Oil Prediction, legitimate or not?

According to the theory of Hubbert's Peak Oil prediction the world's oil supply will peak in the early new millenia and decline slowly over the years leaving us to fend for our selves in a post modern energy scramble.  What is interesting is the consequences this would bring was predicted in the 1970s.. See, Mad Max..  Was he pissed?  Yes.. But more so about his murdered family than the dwindling supply of petroleum in conflict. As the movie progresses you meet Max, a member of some kind of enforcement organization.  In the 70s this movie may have made more sense.. Everything being driven in this post apocalyptic oil-less world sucks gas like there is no tommorrow.  The first very humorous bit I saw was this guy rolling around like a bat-out-of-hell in some kind of V8 or possible V10 car that had to have had atleast 4 carberators..  He comes....

Eight Byte Bits

As a young kid, I was raised by the Nintendo Entertainment system, like any other generation Y-er. NES, wasnt about flashy graphics, and addictive story lines. Real skills, precise timing, and a large supply of sugar & caffine was needed for this type of gaming. No matter who’s 8 bit shoes you were filling at the moment, there wasnt anything easy about NES. One of the things that sticks with me till this day, Super Hero games! Were they any easier? Since your sprite had super human powers you’d think they would cut you a bit of a break, or add some interesting angles to game.. Not really. Terminator could be punched out by a biker in T2. Superman could be had by rude street walkers bumping into him, in a hurry, on their way to the office. The almighty X-Men could run out of super powers within a....

Internet HelpDesk

Internet helpdesk.. the most frustrating, thankless, and low paying job of my life thus far. Daily barrages of calls, being spit from an endless queue of clueless callers. A large percentage of callers who happened to sit through the amazingly pathetic hold times, didn’t even have internet problems at all.. Finally making their way to a helpdesk tech, they stated issues, such as “Microsoft Office wont open, what’s wrong with my internet?” or perhaps they may have even been inclined to believe they needed to pay their bill when their screen reads “BOOT FAILURE!”.. One of my favorite particular incidents started with a charming call from a woman, whose husband had dished out quite a bit of money for a nice new fancy laptop. She had called to receive help setting up their dialup account on the new computer. Everything went smooth, they were setup, and all was well.....
